چکیده

An outline of the lesion was drawn on transparent plastic to evaluate the results; an estimation of the area of the ulcer was achieved by measuring the largest cephalocaudal (CC) and mediolateral (ML) lengths. The initial area of 1.5 cm2 was reduced by 80% to 0.3 cm2 with treatment: 60% in length and 50% in width (Figures 1 & 2). Hydroxyurea improves the antioxidant defense of patients with sickle cell anemia and contributes to a higher catalase activity and trolox-equivalent antioxidant capacity levels and lower lipid peroxidation.(4) However this patient was not taking hydroxyurea and thus lipid peroxidation may be the cause of the recurring leg ulcers. This easily applied therapy was effective and fast in the management of the ulcer and improved the quality of life of the patient.

Immunophenotype of Normal and Myelomatous Plasma-Cell Subsets

Plasma cells (PCs) are essentially characterized by the co-expression of CD138 and CD38, which allows their identification in flow cytometry in bone marrow (BM), peripheral blood, or cell suspensions from tissues. These terminally differentiated B-cells may lose the expression of surface CD19 and that of CD20 while retaining CD27. When malignant, they can gain a number of other markers such as ...

Immunophenotypic Characterization and Quantification of Neoplastic Bone Marrow Plasma Cells by Multiparametric Flow Cytometry and Its Clinical Significance in Korean Myeloma Patients

Multiparametric flow cytometry (MFC) allows discrimination between normal and neoplastic plasma cells (NeoPCs) within the bone marrow plasma cell (BMPC) compartment. This study sought to characterize immunophenotypes and quantitate the proportion of NeoPCs in BMPCs to diagnose plasma cell myeoma (PCM) and evaluate the prognostic impact of this method. We analyzed the MFC data of the bone marrow...

Simplified flow cytometric immunophenotyping panel for multiple myeloma, CD56/CD19/CD138(CD38)/CD45, to differentiate neoplastic myeloma cells from reactive plasma cells

BACKGROUND Flow cytometric immunophenotyping has been used to identify neoplastic plasma cell populations in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). Previous reports have described the use of several antigens, including CD38, CD138, CD56, CD117, CD52, CD19 and CD45, to distinguish distinct populations of plasma cells. The aim of this study was to evaluate a simplified immunophenotyping panel for M...

A single-tube multiparameter seven-colour flow cytometry strategy for the detection of malignant plasma cells in multiple myeloma

The diagnosis and follow-up of multiple myeloma (MM) include the detection of malignant plasma cells (PCs) in the bone marrow (BM). Morphological observation is useful to establish the size of PC infiltration, yet does not allow to differentiate between malignant cells and the residual normal component of PCs. Multiparameter flow cytometry (MFC) is an additional valuable tool, very sensitive in...

Phenotypic difference of normal plasma cells from mature myeloma cells.

We have recently shown that two-color analysis with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-anti-CD38 antibody could clearly distinguish myeloma cells (plasma cells) from other hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow. Myeloma cells (plasma cells) alone were located at CD38strong positive (++) fractions. To further distinguish normal plasma cells from mature myeloma cells phenotypically, we examined im...
